Syllabus: Introduces the concept of enterprise in society and the key factors of entrepreneurial behavior. The focus is on science, engineering and technology (SET) enterprise and addresses creativity, risk and innovation. Basics of accounting practice marketing and fundamentals of the legal framework required for planning and managing an embryonic SET business are outlined. Gives a straightforward understanding of how an enterprise functions within an economic and legal framework. The role of the entrepreneur in society is examined along with the skills needed for enterprise. Case studies develop understanding of how technical and scientific innovation and creativity are transformed into commercial products by enterprise. Future scenarios are assessed and developed through ICT. Basic introduction to some key legal principles that affect the legal obligations, rights and liabilities of enterprises and small business owners in the science, engineering and technology sectors is provided. Financial concepts such as cash flow forecasting, profit and loss and depreciation are introduced in a framework relevant to SET enterprises. Information required for presenting the financial aspects of a business case to a potential investor is explained.
