The course combines theory, research and practice and incorporates a range of new concepts, methodologies and technologies aimed at supporting organisations in achieving corporate objectives by the application of computing and communications based technologies in electronic business environments. Course Entry Requirements/PrerequisitesNecessary for entry into Stage I, candidates must hold a degree in a computing-related discipline from a recognised Australian tertiary institution or an equivalent qualification with a minimum course average of 60 per cent. For entry into Stage II of the course, a candidate must hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology or an appropriate honours degree, in addition, a minimum course average of 65 per cent in prior studies is required for entry into Stage II. No Information Technology/Information Systems industry experience is required for entry into Stage II of the program. Students wishing to progress to a PhD are required to complete a 100 credit dissertation and achieve a minimum Course Weighted Average (CWA) of 70 per cent. Recognition of Prior LearningApplications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Duration and AvailabilityThis fee-paying course is four semesters full time or equivalent part-time study. Intermediate AwardsA student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Postgraduate Diploma in Electronic Business may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award, subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Course OrganisationThe areas studied in Stage I include managing information systems projects and risks, collaborative technologies, enterprise network infrastructure, web design and architecture, object-oriented programming and problem solving. Stage II incorporates advanced coursework involving strategies for web management, enterprise network security, web services and research methods. Students may choose to undertake a research project or optional units covering strategic alignment of information systems, business intelligence and cyberwarfare, data mining and advanced database management, enterprise network management, statistical data analysis, strategic logistics management or Internet enabling technologies. Professional RecognitionWith a prior computing related degree graduates may apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society and the British Computing Society. Career OpportunitiesMasters graduates generally find employment in management and leadership roles within private and public organisations carrying out electronic business.
