Introduction

This course is designed to equip students to move directly into the workforce as provisionally registered psychologists with four years training. It is a general applied psychology program emphasising the application of knowledge to problems arising in professional practice. It provides a thorough understanding of the theoretical framework within which various approaches and techniques have been developed. Experimental design relevant to applied research are an important part of the course work.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

An accredited three year psychology degree. Academic merit, referee reports and relevant work experience may be considered for selection into the program.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Recognition of prior learning will only be considered by the Head of School for units completed in an APS approved fourth year program.

Duration and Availability

This course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study. It is not possible to commence the course at any other time than the start of the academic year.

Professional Recognition

Graduates are eligible to apply for associate membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and provisional registration. In Western Australia two years supervised psychological practice after fourth year or completion of a two-year masters program is required for full registration as a psychologist. For full membership of the APS a masters degree is required.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.
