Nursing theory and research as well as professional role development are an integral part of the course which is focused on the development of the multiple roles of the clinical expert through studies in specialist and advanced practice role development. Course Entry Requirements/PrerequisitesRequirement to be currently registered nurses, or eligible for registration with the Nurses Board of Western Australia, with a bachelor degree in nursing or in a related discipline and with a minimum of one year post-registration clinical experience. Those entering with a degree from a discipline where areas of essential nursing knowledge and skills are deficient, are required to undertake selected units prior to course commencement. Evidence of successful completion of appropriate research units is an additional course prerequisite. Selection is based on academic performance, clinical experience, professional references and an interview. Overseas applicants are required to have completed a bachelor degree in nursing or a nursing program of three years or more leading to registration, be currently registered in their own country and provide certified documentation to that effect. They must also meet the University's usual entrance requirements. Overseas applicants are required to provide evidence of proficiency in the English language. If necessary, on acceptance into the course, overseas students are advised of the requirements for provisional registration by the Nurses Board of Western Australia. Recognition of Prior LearningApplications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Duration and AvailabilityThis fee paying course is two years full-time or equivalent part-time study. Intermediate AwardsA student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School.
