Introduction

The course develops awareness in dealing with middle management issues, marketing and the strategic planning of a wine business for domestic wine consumption and exportation. As the major disciplines of viticulture, winemaking and wine business management are integrated, an appreciation of each function is developed. It is aimed at those employed in the wine industry requiring extended knowledge in the wine marketing and management functions of the wine producer.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution. Applicants employed for a minimum of three years by a wine producer in a management function may apply on the basis of prior learning. Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Wine Business Management may provide direct entry into this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is two semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study. This course is only available by external study mode, with the requirement to attend a residential school of approximately five days duration in Western Australia. Students undertaking electives in sensory evaluation, viticulture or grape and wine technology are required to attend residential workshops in Perth, Western Australia.

Intermediate Awards

A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Wine Business Management may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Director, Muresk Institute of Agriculture. Course Organisation

There is a mandatory residential component for all students.

Professional Recognition

In association with industry experience and responsibilities, graduates are eligible for full membership of the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology, Australian Institute of Management and Australian Marketing Institute.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the course are equipped for employment in challenging positions in the growing wine science, viticulture, wine mareting and wine business industry.
