Introduction

Building on foundation study of business and mining disciplines, this research course prepares candidates for more analytical and applied research roles in the mining and energy sectors. Its focus may be on economic, financial and management issues as they relate to both mining and energy.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A four year bachelor degree with honours or a post graduate diploma from a recognised university.

Duration and Availability

The main part of the program undertaken in the thesis can be completed in a year of full-time study. This course is also available in part-time mode. Candidates may be required to complete foundation courses in economics or other business disciplines before entering the main part of the program. This may require the equivalent of one semester of full-time study.

Course Organisation

This course is studied as a research degree. The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the postgraduate coordinator, Western Australian School of Mines. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analysis will be required to undertake relevant preparatory units. This will increase the stated course duration.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.

Special Note

It is a requirement that at least two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research.
