Introduction

This masters course provides the opportunity to achieve a substantial professional level of critical thinking and writing, knowledge in a given discipline, and thus contribute significantly to the profession in both practical and theoretical ways. Students focus upon such interdisciplinary areas as Australian studies, culture studies, gender studies, literary studies and performance studies. Where appropriate students undertake relevant study in other Curtin departments or at other tertiary institutions. This course consists of a combination of coursework and a significant research or production project carried out under supervision.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

An approved honours degree, or postgraduate diploma with well above average marks usually an average of at least 70, and with adequate training in contemporary literary and cultural theories. Applicants without necessary preparation are required to undertake bridging units, either Contemporary Critical Issues 411 or an appropriate honours unit.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study. It is not available by external study. Unit availability specifically caters for those unable to study during the day or on a full-time basis. However, it should be noted thatwork in theatre requires substantial attendance on campus, often in daytime. This course is currently being revised, and is not available for admission in 2005.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.
