Introduction
This course provides those currently working in the health field with advanced course work in public health that is specifically designed to broaden individual knowledge, competence and skills. It attracts health professionals including doctors, health educators, health administrators, nurses, pharmacists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, dentists, podiatrists, psychologists, dietitians, radiographers, audiologists, speech therapists, environmental health scientists and educators.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification from a tertiary institution preferably in a health science area, education, behavioural sciences, social sciences or management. Applicants with other qualifications and expertise are considered for admission, but may be required to complete appropriate bridging units.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study, although the majority of students study part-time. Where possible, classes will be scheduled in the evening to accommodate students already employed. As well as in internal modethis course is also offered in external mode which is a distance learning program for rural and remote area students.
Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of one of the Graduate Certificates offered by the School of Public Health and including the Graduate Certificate in International Health may apply, under exceptional circumstance provisions, for graduation in that award subject to the approval of the Head of School. For further definition refer to the Statement and Awards section under General Information.
Course Organisation
A combination of multidisciplinary core units and public health units are offered examining environmental health, health promotion, nutrition, occupational health and safety, epidemiology, health administration and evaluation.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.
