Syllabus:

Selected issues in post war Japan-modernisation or 'westernisation', democratisation, industrialisation and internationalisation. Selected key events and episodes-the allied occupation, the early post war reconstruction, the golden sixties of high economic growth, the rise of citizens' movements, 'Japan bashing' and the post Cold War Japan.
