Syllabus:

Requirements of the hydrocarbon age - products and specifications, chemistry of crude oil, hydrocarbon types, crude oil types, crude characterisation. Distillation - refining topography, distillation, atmospheric, vacuum, pressurised. Reforming and cracking - reforming, catalytic cracking. Gas production - hydrocracking, hydroprocessing. Light end - light end processing, alkylation, catalytic polymerisation, isomerisation. Heavy end - heavy end strategies (lube production, bitumen, coking), sulphur and sulphur treating (sulphur removal and sweetening, sulphur recovery, amine systems), miscellaneous processes (drying, desalting). Logistics and economics - refining and logistics, economics and optimisation.
