Syllabus:

Basic principles involved in structuring information objects and creating the metadata which makes them retrievable. Topics will include information structures, hypertext, databases, automatic and derived indexing, metadata and description, DTDs and schemas, indexing languages, standards and subject analysis, evaluation of retrieval effectiveness.
