Syllabus:

Scientific and engineering approach to mine design. Input data for initial mine design. Underground design - geomechanical evaluation and rock properties, application of numerical modelling and limitations, design methods of dimensioning stopes and pillars. Design considerations for various mining methods, primary and secondary development excavation design, blast design, cost and productivity estimates, stope services design and materials handling. Open pit design, design process in open pit mining, cut-off grade analysis, bench slope, haul road and pushback design. Drilling and blasting design. Applications of CAD systems in mine design. Design principles and discussion of case studies.
