Students firstly engage in a semester of coursework and individual project preparation, and then complete a semester of intensive research, writing, creative and professional practice during their honours dissertation. Students are required to contribute to their research via presentations in an academic setting. They will gain skills in individual project management, research techniques, critical thinking, analytical writing as well as detailed knowledge in their specific project area. Creative production and professional practice can be combined with academic research to provide a substantial applied research outcome. Students are encouraged to complete interdisciplinary work relating the Internet to the broader, converging field of media and information. Students may be required to undertake additional units of study as a pre-requisite for entry to provide them with specific, relevant skills necessary for successful completion. Recognition of Prior LearningApplications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Duration and AvailabilityThe course is of one year full-time duration or equivalent part-time study. Extensions may only be granted in exceptional cases. It is normally expected that students attend campus but the Department of Media and Information can in some cases provide high-quality computer-mediated supervision to off-campus students in the Bachelor of Arts (Internet Studies) (Honours).
