Introduction

The purpose of the Master of Arts is to enhance the skills of professional practitioners so that they are able to plan and implement effective, and culturally appropriate, research and development processes in diverse contexts. The aim is to maximise opportunities for local Indigenous participation and direction as well as providing direct benefits for those who are the focus of the research activities multidisciplinary in approach, this course encompasses knowledge and discourses from a variety of traditions. It is grounded in and framed by Indigenous knowledge. In undertaking their research, students will develop high levels of competence in conceptualising observing, describing and analysing information using a variety of observational techniques andanalytical procedures.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A Postgraduate Diploma at University level, or a Bachelor degree with Honours or qualifications from another institution recognised by tertiary admissions authorities in Australia and deemed to be equivalent to or a satisfactory substitute for any of the above qualifications. Those students without completed formal coursework in Aboriginal Studies may also be required to complete appropriate background units.

Duration and Availability

This is of two years full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

This course is studied as a research degree. The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the Postgraduate Coordinator, Centre for Aboriginal Studies. Students may be required to undertake preparatory coursework units that may increase the stated course duration.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study. Students are required to have full-time use of a computer with electronic communication capabilities.
