| Syllabus: | Molecular biology and biotechnology of animal, plant, insect and bacterial viruses and other sub-cellular organisms. Use of viruses as models for studying gene regulation and nucleic acid replication. Contribution of viruses to molecular biotechnology: strategies for the development of antiviral agents and vaccines, cloning and expression vectors and insecticides. Viruses as tools for studying oncogenesis and apoptosis. Diagnosis of viral infection and epidemiology of viral diseases. Use of cutting-edge technologies for studying molecular biology and micro-organisms including PCR, DNA sequencing, proteomics and micro arrays. |
