| Syllabus: | Construction industry impacts on the environment, society and the economy. Sustainable development and ecological issues related to commercial, residential and industrial buildings. |
| Syllabus: | Sustainable development and ecological issues related to commercial, residential and industrial building construction. The unit comprises a series of lectures on different environmental, ecological and sustainability issues and concentrates on specific areas that affect and are affected by the construction industry. The lectures are augmented with a series of guest speakers drawn from government and industry organisations, together with relevant site visits where appropriate. Students are able to gain an appreciation of how construction has considerable impact on the environment, society and the economy, including land use, deforestation, pollution, noise and the use of natural resources. Class exercises are undertaken throughout the semester to allowthe students to apply theoretical knowledge gained in lectures to practical situations. |
