Syllabus: | Introduction to agribusiness systems to understand how agricultural products are produced and how they get to consumers. Exploration of the concepts of systems and systems analysis. Application of concepts to an analysis and evaluation of agribusiness systems (supply or demand chains). Topics include: Consumer markets (food service and retail); Chain intermediaries (import/export, wholesale, transport, processing); Agricultural production systems and Input supply industries. Agricultural production systems include intensive (aquaculture, horticulture, viticulture, pigs, horses, poultry), broadacre and pastoral (grain, beef, sheep, wool) and equine industries. There is a field trip component of this unit. |
