Introduction

This degree will equip students with the skills, understanding and discipline to work in the media, public affairs and communications industries. Students will become proficient in writing; news, media releases, speeches, briefing notes, publicity brochures and short reports. Units in professional ethics and the communication law will ensure that all work is contextualised and responsive to real industry situations. As future members of a communication team students will undertake study in the principles of public relations and the effective use of advertising as a strategic practice. Online and hard copy editing in a variety of mediums will provide opportunities for students to work in teams while maximizing individual communication skills. The CMP Major will focus on the creative production of corporate films including short form documentaries and advertising. Students will develop camera, sound and editing skills alongside script develop and script writing assignments.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

An undergraduate degree in an unrelated discipline.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This course is 18 month full-time or equivalent part time study.

Intermediate Awards I

Students may choose to exit the program with either a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Professional Communications. Students seeking to exit with the Graduate Diploma would substitute the Project Preparation and Research unit with a 25pt optional unit.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
