304025 v.5 Aboriginal Bridging Course

This course is not available to International Onshore Students on Student Visas

Introduction

The Aboriginal Bridging Course will introduce students to the university environment and prepare them for mainstream studies. The course will develop literacy, numeracy, technological skills required for entrance into university undergraduate degree program. In addition, the course encourages a positive sense of Aboriginal identity and self-esteem; and will enhance employment potential.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Available only to applicants of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who have completed a basic secondary school education; and require further assistance to gain University entrance. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age to enter the course.

Specific Requirements

Applicants must attend an interview and testing at Curtin to assess current level of education, generalities and long term goals. On successful completion of this bridging course graduates are eligible for entry into Curtin undergraduate degree and associate degree programs.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants cannot receive recognition of prior learning for bridging units completed when transferring to award courses.

Duration and Availability

The course is one year full-time study.

Course Organisation

It is a government directive that students undertaking any enabling/bridging course may only complete the designated enabling/bridging units. Students intending to study mainstream units may only do so in accordance with their conditions of admission and then, only as part of a non-award extension fee-paying program.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.

Special Note

Support services are available to assist you in areas such as accommodation, child care and scholarship programs. Academic tutoring is also available to assist with assignment preparation and subjects within the course.
