Syllabus: | This unit will not be available until semester one, 2009. Fundamentals of physiology and biochemistry of aquatic animals. Structure and functions of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids. Enzymes, hormones and neurotransmitters. Major biochemical pathways. Biochemical energetics. Chemistry of body fluids. Major physiological processes in aquaculture species: respiration and circulation, osmoregulation, digestion, endocrinology, immunity, and nervous system. Comparisons between land and aquatic animals where relevant. |
