Syllabus: Photography component: this component, will, by utilising still film and digital photographic cameras, investigates the integration and application of photography with design devices and applications. Through a series of projects, students develop intermediate level skills in location photography, studio portrait lighting and illustrative techniques and principles. The component also introduces the concept of 'design photography' where by integrating design principles to the study of the still medium, photography is recognised as a core element of design practice. Typography component: The aim of this component is to give students a firm grasp of the fundamentals of typographic design as a means of creating effective visual communications, while emphasising the social value of the design and use of types in everyday life. The unit consists of a series of demonstrations, exercises and tutorials, combined with project assignments aimed a furthering the student's understanding of the basic principles of typographic design.
