Syllabus: | Students will be introduced to theories and approaches of counselling including psychodynamic, person-centred and cognitive behavioural, examining their contemporary applications. They will then engage with therapeutic approaches informed by recent social theories, especially solution-focused brief therapy, possibility therapy and narrative therapy. Throughout this unit students will be encouraged and challenged to explore their understandings of the idea of the self, how they make sense of personal experience, and how they might apply various theories in counselling practice. |
