| Syllabus: | This unit provides an overview of anthropological and sociological contributions of health and health care; models of disease, illness and care; and a cross-cultural introduction to ethnomedicine. Students will gain an understanding of medical pluralism; the health consequences of social change in the developing world; and the health consequences of development. The contributions of medical anthropology to research in interdisciplinary contexts; the application of adequate and appropriate services in developing countries from an applied medical anthropological perspective will be explored. |
