Syllabus: | Examines some of the current important issues in international health. An overview of health problems and inequities between and within countries of the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean region. These are examined from an epidemiological perspective (including the environmental, demographic, political and economic determinants of disease), and from an ethnomedical perspective which examines the cultural meanings of health and illness (including definitions of illness, the sick role, status differences between patients and practitioners). The various responses of government, non-government and international organisations to health problems and challenges facing the world in the next decades. |
