309474 v.2 Journalism Honours Major

Introduction

This honours course combines advanced coursework with individual research broadly relating to the professional practice and/or critical analysis of journalism. It is particularly well suited to those intending to pursue applied research through professional practice in journalism. Students engage in a semester of coursework and individual project preparation, and then complete a semester of intensive research, writing, creative and/or professional practice during their honours dissertation. Students are required to contribute to their research by conducting presentations in an academic setting. They learn skills in individual project management, research techniques, critical thinking, and analytical writing, and gain detailed knowledge in their specific project area. More creative production and professional practice can be combined with academic research to provide a substantial applied research outcome. Students are encouraged to complete interdisciplinary work relating journalism to the broader, converging field of media and information.
