Introduction
This course provides an intensive professional program in journalism. It combines core units in media ethics and media law with units in newspaper, radio, television and on-line news production. Students enrolled in the program will have the opportunity to publish or broadcast their work through the student newspaper The Western Independent, the journalism's program website InkWire, the on-campus radio station Curtin FM 100.1 and local television stations. All production facilities are provided, ensuring that students enjoy a professional working environment and a supportive and productive culture. The program is administered and taught by academic and industry professionals with experience at all levels of media production and management.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A Bachelor degree or equivalent.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Course Organisation
Students are required to participate in production classes outside the normal lecture or tutorial program. Some students may be eligible to undertake an industry placement program in their final semester.
Professional Recognition
Graduates will be eligible for membership to the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
