Syllabus: Description and interpretation of metamorphic rocks. Chemical equilibrium, mineral reactions, nucleation and porphyroblast growth. Deformation and metamorphic fabrics. The metamorphic facies. Fluids, migmatites and partial melting. Metamorphic rocksin hand-specimen and thin-section. Tectonic settings of high, medium and low pressure metamorphism.
