Syllabus: Types of aquatic systems; Diversity of aquatic life; Introduction to phylogeny and taxonomy of aquatic species; basic water chemistry, morphometrics and identification of aquatic invertebrates and fishes; Anthropogenic impacts on aquatic ecosystems; approaches to monitoring aquatic biodiversity;Ecology of multi-species aquatic systems; Abiotic (physical and chemical water quality parameters) and biotic environment (primary producers an consumers) Life cycle strategies of common zooplanktons and their role in food web, Introduction to marine and freshwater habitats, Review of existing body of knowledge in the relevant areas of aquatic systems, coastal zone management, fisheries, aquaculture and aquatic environmental management.
