Syllabus:	Failure theories, statistically based failure rates. Design of spur gears and helical gears. Rolling element bearing design. Hydrodynamic bearing design. Shaft design. Column buckling, using theoretical models. Introduction to structural design using theAustralian Structural Steel Design Code of columns and beams to AS 4100.
