Syllabus:	Refugee and Migrant health involves consideration of some of the world's most vulnerable populations and as such, includes issues central to human welfare and the progress of human rights. This unit is designed to explore the complexities involved in meeting the health needs of individuals and communities who are living away from their place of origin and who often have had to leave their home country under conditions of duress. The unit includes an introduction to the historical, socio-political issues surrounding global movement of people; the relationships between health and the voluntary and forced migration of people; the specific impact of the refugee experience on health of individuals and communities; mental health issues relating to minority status, cross cultural issues, torture and trauma; rebuilding communities following extreme stress; the impact of working with trauma; and addressing refugee health issues within a human rights framework.
