Syllabus: | The idea of heritage and building conservation. Heritage and conservation theory including interpretation. Heritage legislation and International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) conservation guidelines. The assessment of cultural significance andconservation management. The practices of archival research, building inspections, building measurement and recording. The conservation of building construction and materials. The recycling of buildings. Currently available at undergraduate level. Attracts graduates from architecture, planning and landscape architecture, as some of these students have not had exposure to this particular subject matter and its associated skills. At postgraduate level students will be expected to display a higher level of academic achievement and to review the literature at greater depth and critical analysis. Urban Design students in particular should be able to demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills and techniques base for transport land use integration with regard to urban design practice. |
