| Syllabus: | Introduction to pathology and the role of certain disciplines in the diagnosis of disease. Pathology: disease characteristics, classification, causes, manifestations, diagnosis and treatment, cellular injury and inflammation. Haematology: components of blood, haemoglobin structure and function, platelets and reticulocytes, cell counting, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, red blood cells, indices and blood film examination. Clinical biochemistry: amino acids, proteins, enzymes, carbohydrates, lipids, water, electrolytes and mineral metabolism. Histotechnology: fixation, processing, microtomy and staining. |
