Introduction (HB)

Tourism and Event Management Major- This major provides the relevant knowledge and skills required for career advancement and management positions in the rapidly expanding tourism industry in Australia and overseas. It includes study of the management oftravel agency and leisure facility environments, the impact of tourism on the local and global economy, and the development of tourism as an important invisible export. Asian Studies Major- gives student a high degree of 'Asia-literacy', developing insights into various areas: culture, society, religion, history, politics, environment, linguistics and communication, and business organisations. Using a multidisciplinary approach, it emphasises what is universal and/or comparative about Asia. The major also helps students understand the social and business dynamics of the region, and to develop their career and research skills. It thus balances theoretical investigation with a practical career orientation. The Asian studies major offers possibilities for combinations with other majors which will further enhance career paths.
