Syllabus:	The modern world. The idea and practice of imperial government at the beginning of the nineteenth century. 19th century European imperialist expansion. The nature of colonial authority. The rejection of European imperial rule - nationalist ideas and nationalist movements. The impact of the 1939-45 war. The post war world. The emergence of the 'third world'. The problem of neocolonialism.
