This research course is designed to provide opportunities through leading edge, applied research to develop special interests in selected areas of corporate sustainability including eco-efficiency, cleaner production, sustainable technology or sustainability management.
An undergraduate program in a related area with at least second-class honours or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary education institute. Performance greater than or equal to an average of 70 per cent across all units in a postgraduate diploma in a related area is considered an equivalent qualification, providing a research topic or project exceeding 30 per cent of the credit points for the course was also completed.
It is a requirement that at least two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only up to one-third can be undertaken by coursework. Students without the specific knowledge required to complete the course may be required to undertake specific coursework units.
This course is by research and normally requires two years full-time study or equivalent part-time study. While the course is normally studied internally, it can be completed by a student off-campus, subject to meeting the university's policy for appropriate face-to-face contact during the period of the course.
This course is studied as a research degree. The content of the degree should be determined in the consultation with the course coordinator, Centre of Excellence in Cleaner Production. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analyses may be required to undertake relevant preparatory units as part of their program of study. Areas of study normally reflect the research interests of staff and include eco-efficiency, cleaner production, sustainable technology and sustainability management.
This course provides opportunities for students to extend their professional development into the areas of eco- efficiency, cleaner production, sustainable technology or corporate sustainability by undertaking leading edge, applied research in these areas. This will enable them to take a leadership role in transitioning their organisations to benefit from the opportunities presented by sustainability issues and approaches presented by sustainability issues and approaches, locally, nationally and globally.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
