This double major provides students with the opportunity to acquire both a sound understanding of marketing and the skills and knowledge required to pursue a career in sport management or as a sport marketer. Sport Management is unique amongst Australian universities as it is the only course offered by a school of business law in Australia, reflecting the increased influence of law in the day to day operation of sport organisations. Students will study core business units alongside core sport units thatcontain numerous practical sport business examples from a great range of national and international sport organisations at amateur, professional and Olympic levels. Marketing anticipates demands for products, services and ideas by analysing behaviour ofcompetitors and customers, and designing products, promotion, pricing and distribution strategies. This component of the major will also prepare students to organise and control marketing activities efficiently in a highly competitive and volatile environment.
Graduates will meet the academic requirements for membership of the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ), the Institute of Sport Management (ISM) and the Australia and New Zealand Sports Law Association (ANZSLA) and the Australian Institute of Management.
Graduates may find employment in both the public and private sectors including organisations such as: The Department of Sport and Recreation, national and state sporting organisations, institutes and academies of sport, professional league clubs: Australian Football League (AFL); National Rugby League (NRL); Australian Rugby Union (ARU); the National Basketball League (NBL), recreation centres, tourism organisations, and event management agencies.
