This course provides skills and knowledge in Internet practice and an understanding of the growth, uses and future development and application of the Internet, as well as specific education in aspects of Internet use or development for information dissemination and design, communication and community-building, policy development and advanced research skills. It is designed to complement students' existing knowledge, combining a general qualification with more specific educational opportunities to learn in a way that best suits existing needs and priorities. Creative overlap between current employment and study is possible.
A bachelor degree in any field of study from a recognised tertiary education institution. Students without a bachelor degree may be admitted after successful completion of units in the Graduate Certificate in Internet Studies.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Credit may be awarded for prior learning and demonstrated existing skills.
This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study through flexible delivery using Internet technologies including additional class contact for on-campus students. Class contact is mandatory for international students in Australia.
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate award(s) approved for this course are:
Graduate Certificate in Internet Studies.
Students study four general units, developing their broad skills and understandings of the Internet followed by the selection of a specialised area. Learning takes place through a mix of individual study, using materials provided by Curtin in electronicor print form and group collaboration and communication. Active student participation and immersion in the Internet environment is emphasised. Students may be permitted to transfer from this course to continue studies at a more advanced level in the Master of Internet Studies.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
Students are required to have and maintain reliable Internet access.

Any changes to the internal composition of a course will protect the right of students to complete the course within the normal timeframe and will not result in additional cost to students through a requirement to undertake additional units.
