Introduction

Designed to provide the theoretical foundations and techniques of management, law, logistics purchasing, contract administration, via a case study together with practical business applications. A range of issues are studied that are applicable to strategic procurement including: competitive conduct, strategy, logistics and management.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree in business, economics or commerce, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution, provided the specific discipline in the bachelor degree is different to that of the proposed professional master, or a bachelor degree in a field other than business, economics or commerce, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution, or an honours degree, or a graduate diploma (in business, economics or commerce), or significant professional experience. Note that the student may be required to complete additional foundation units at the discretion of the appropriate academic program area head.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study. Some units are available in the evening.

Intermediate Awards 1

A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate award(s) approved for this course are:

Professional Recognition

Graduates are eligible to meet the requirements leading to full membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply in the United Kingdom.

Graduates are expected to obtain employment in both the public and private sectors. Public sector employers include: State Supply Commission, Department of Contract and Management Services and local government authorities. Private sector employers include: large commercial organisations and mining companies.
