| Syllabus: | In this unit students will develop advanced knowledge of the microorganisms involved in infectious diseases, with a focus on molecular evolution and how it contributes to the emergence and re- emergence of bacterial and viral pathogens with increased antimicrobial resistance and virulence. Modern sequence-based analyses of microbial pathogenesis which offers new insights and solutions for the surveillance, prevention and control of infectious diseases will also be studied. The unit focuses on infection control and prevention strategies for bacterial and viral infections transmitted through multiple routes. Students will have the opportunity to gain additional practical knowledge and microbiology laboratory experience. |
