| Syllabus: | This unit provides students with a comprehensive overview of advanced mining systems and methods, including unmanned and remotely operated mining systems, and other digital technologies. Consideration will be given to the factors that enable, or hinder, effective implementation and utilisation of these systems. Students will also be exposed to new developments in unconventional/alternative mining methods, e.g., deep underground mining, in-situ mining, deep sea mining, urban mining, brine mining, and space mining, and to the associated environmental, social and safety implications of these different approaches. The unit will empower and inspire students to utilise new technologies effectively to address diverse mining challenges, from exploration through to mine closure. Students will also be required to participate in fieldwork activities |
