| UNIT REFERENCES, TEXTS, OUTCOMES AND ASSESSMENT DETAILS: | The most up-to-date information about unit references, texts and outcomes, will be provided in the unit outline. |
| Additional Tuition Pattern Information: | 2 hour tutorial for teaching weeks 6 & 8 1 hour tutorial for rest of teaching weeks (other than week 6 & 8) |
| Syllabus: | This unit will cover 3 main topics: fundamentals in structural vibrations, structural health condition monitoring based on vibrations, and wave / electro-chemical techniques that pertain to health condition monitoring of the asset. In the first section of this unit, the fundamental theories of vibration analysis for single degree-of-freedom and multi-degree-of-freedom systems will be investigated. This includes analysing the structural responses of a system under forced vibrations and obtaining the transfer functions of the systems. Building on the groundwork in the first section, the second section of the unit will introduce structural health condition monitoring, which includes an introduction to the instruments used, the various tests that are performed, and how to analyse the resulting data. The last section of this unit will focus on other methods of condition assessment, such as techniques involving acoustic and ultrasonic waves or electro-chemicals. |
