Course Overview
Graduate Certificates prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.
The Graduate Certificate in Education has been designed to provide a vehicle for postgraduate level students from a variety of disciplines to advance their knowledge and skills in the field of education. This fully flexible program will enable students to choose course content that aligns to their interests and career development aspirations, in the context of their existing experience. It covers fundamental understandings about learning and teaching in different contexts. By selecting course content with a specific area of educational focus, students will be well-placed to utilise this Graduate Certificate as the basis for further study in education, including potentially seeking qualification as a school teacher. Customised programs for cohorts of students are also available.
This course will not enable graduates to register as a qualified teacher in a school or educational facility.
Career Opportunities
This course will provide foundational educational understandings for those looking to pursue education-orientated careers outside of the school system.
Additional Course Expenses

Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Graduate Certificate are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://study.curtin.edu.au/. Applicants generally require a Bachelor Degree or equivalent credit gained for recognised learning. All Curtin courses have compulsory and other core capabilities that are essential for demonstrating the achievement of course learning outcomes and graduation. Students who are unable to meet or demonstrate those requirements, now or in later stages during their studies, may seek reasonable adjustments by the University wherever possible to facilitate alternative ways of achieving those requirements. If reasonable adjustments cannot be accommodated, Curtin will discuss study options to find an alternative course of study or an exit degree. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Specifically, applicants require a Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in any discipline OR A minimum of a Diploma level qualification combined with relevant professional experience Minimum English language proficiency requirement is IELTS 6.5.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Further information can be found at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au/non-school-leavers/rpl.cfm
Students considering applying for entry to the Master of Teaching, in order to qualify for registration as a school teacher, should follow the recommendations regarding unit selection in this course to ensure they maximise their eligibility to receive credit for recognised learning.
Pathway to Further Study
Graduates may qualify for entry to some Graduate Diplomas and Master degrees. For further details, see the University website http://curtin.edu.au.
This course is designed as a pathway for entry into the Master of Education for those who do not hold a four-year Australian teaching qualification (or equivalent). However, some graduates may be required to complete further study before they are eligible for entry to the Master of Education, depending upon their educational background. Completion of the Graduate Certificate in Education does not guarantee eligibility for entry into the Master of Teaching (for registration as a teacher). Graduates of this course will still be required to meet academic, non-academic, English language proficiency and any other requirements for entry to the Master of Teaching.
