Course Overview
Bachelor Degrees prepare students to develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 7 qualifications.
The Bachelor of Commerce is a business qualification designed to help you reach your career potential and prepare you for the changing job market. Your learning experiences will be richly interactive and industry connected, using advanced technologies that develop your decision-making and leadership skills, both of which are essential in a future marketplace. The course starts with a business foundation year, where you will explore value creation in business, learn to use financial information to make informed and responsible decisions, and develop your business intelligence and analytical capabilities to interpret data in a meaningful way. Following on from this, you’ll choose one or two major areas of business in which to specialise and gain expertise, employing learned career management theories to plan your own success. This degree will grow your international business outlook and connect you with industry. In your final year, you’ll undertake an industry work placement or work on an applied business project, applying your entrepreneurial skills, business ideas and ‘out of the box’ thinking to a real business environment.

Graduates of the following majors within this course may be eligible for membership of and certification by the Australian Property Institute: MJRU-PROPV Property Development and Valuation Major (BCom); MJDU-PRPFN Property and Finance Double Major (BCom); MJDU-PRPMK Property and Marketing Double Major (BCom); MJRU-PRPTY Property Major (BCom).

Course Overview Note
Students should be aware that they need to commence the first 4 Business Core Units before they undertake the core Data Analytics for Decision Making and the first unit for their major in Year 1, Semester 2.
Course Entry and Completion Details

Course Organisation
Bachelor Degrees typically contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may contain a range of majors, streams and/or minors/specialisations for students to choose from to pursue learning in a specialised area of study. Students can take no more than 250 credit points of first year level units.
The course starts with a foundation business core, where students will explore value creation in business, learn to use financial information to make informed and responsible decisions, and develop business intelligence and analytical capabilities to interpret data in a meaningful way. Following on from this, students choose one or two major areas of business in which to specialise and gain expertise, employing learned career management theories to plan success. All students complete 5 common core units in Year 1 (125 credits) and a capstone unit in the final year. Refer to relevant Pathway for further structure information.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. apply discipline knowledge to solve complex business problems and create innovative business solutions that consider the global business environment
2. communicate professionally, and in ways that are responsible and appropriate for local, national and international business contexts
3. use relevant technologies and industry information to analyse business problems in ways that demonstrate critical thinking and responsible judgement
4. demonstrate an understanding of cultural diversity and the how this informs respectful and responsible business practices
5. demonstrate industry readiness through the development of sound practical business solutions, and critical reflection of individual capabilities and the future of work
Duration and Availability
This course is three years full-time or equivalent part-time study. Some units and majors may be available via external study. Some majors in this course are not available at all campus locations and to international students studying in Australia. Please refer to information provided for individual majors.
