Course Overview
Master Degrees (Research) prepare students to apply advanced knowledge for research, scholarship and further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.
This research course develops a strong critical and problem solving approach to professional practice in Psychology. The course forms a basis for the professional development of experts able to plan, analyse, evaluate, conduct and communicate the outcomes of sophisticated research and development problems.

This course is accredited in Australia by the Australian Psychology Council.
Professional Recognition
Graduates of this course in Australia may be recognised by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Graduates of this course in Australia are eligible to apply for membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and full registration as a psychologist.

This course has been accredited by the professional body APAC from the 28th October 2019 to 31 December 2022.

Course Overview Note
It is a requirement that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only one-third by coursework.
Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Master by Research are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://research.curtin.edu.au/postgraduate-research/future-research-students/entry-requirements/. Applicants who are admitted into an end-on Honours degree at Curtin, but who are yet to be awarded their Honours are eligible for entry. Applicants must achieve a result for their Bachelor Honours of first or upper second class. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met. Upon entry, applicants will forgo their Honours qualification for credit towards their Master degree. Their Honours remains an exit award for the Master degree.
This course is only available to current Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) students at Curtin. Only applicants who achieve a final Honours grade of 2A or above are eligible.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course:

Course Organisation
Master Degrees (Research) require students to undertake an approved research program leading to a thesis for independent examination; they may include advanced level coursework studies.
The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the Director Graduate Studies within the relevant School. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analysis will be required to undertake relevant preparatory units. This will increase the stated course duration.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. Demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and to reflect critically on that knowledge and its application
2. Investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories and to apply established theories to different bodies of knowledge or practice
3. Generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract level
4. Design, use and evaluate research and research methods
5. Design, evaluate, implement, analyse, theorise and disseminate research that makes an original contribution to knowledge
6. Communicate and present a coherent and sustained argument and to disseminate research concepts, plans and results to the general community, peers and national and international research community
