Course Overview
Master Degrees (Research) prepare students to apply advanced knowledge for research, scholarship and further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.
This course is designed to provide opportunities for students to obtain further postgraduate specialist qualifications in surveying and mapping by applying specific skills and understanding in carrying out independent research. Thesis topics will be chosen from problems of continuing or emerging significance and often will relate to relevant problems of industry and government.

Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Master Degree (Research) are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://research.curtin.edu.au/postgraduate-research/future-research-students/entry-requirements/. Applicants require a Bachelor Degree with a strong academic performance and may also require relevant substantial work experience or Bachelor Honours Degree (first or second class) or Graduate Diploma. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Students having successfully completed the four-year Bachelor of Surveying with honours may be admitted directly into this masters course. Alternatively, they may be admitted after having completed a graduate diploma, properly structured to give a comprehensive study of core areas. Students with equivalent qualifications from other institutions will be admitted at the discretion of the Department's coordinator of postgraduate studies. Students may be required to attend an interview as part of the selection process.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Course Organisation
Master Degrees (Research) require students to undertake an approved research program leading to a thesis for independent examination; they may include advanced level coursework studies.
Each student's study program will comprise a thesis in surveying and mapping which will constitute the total study program and may not be completed in less than one year of full-time study.

This course is two years full-time or equivalent part-time study.
