GC-CRENGR v.2 Graduate Certificate in Corrosion Engineering
GradCertCorrEng(Curtin)
This course is not available to International Onshore Students on Student Visas
Course Overview
Graduate Certificates prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.
The Curtin University Corrosion Engineering Course is unique to the region and is tailored to industry needs, specifically the energy and resource industries, meeting strong global demand for Corrosion Engineers. The course is designed to deliver specific skills such as understanding fundamental corrosion and prevention principles, diagnosing corrosion problems, formulating anti-corrosion solutions including working on real-life corrosion cases and projects. This course provides an advanced professional qualification for graduates in engineering or science disciplines.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks and other essential study materials.
Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Graduate Certificate are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au. Applicants generally require a Bachelor Degree or equivalent credit gained for recognised learning. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Recognised bachelor degree in engineering or science, with the equivalent of first year chemistry or Recognised relevant work experience. Students via this pathway may be required to undertake additional not for degree units such as first year chemistry.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Further information can be found at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au/non-school-leavers/rpl.cfm
Pathway to Further Study
Graduates may qualify for entry to some Graduate Diplomas and Master degrees. For further details, see the University website http://curtin.edu.au.
Course Organisation
Graduate Certificates contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. apply corrosion theories and principles to account for corrosion causes, failures and prevention strategies
2. analyse a range of practical corrosion-related problems or situations potentially impacted by corrosion and propose viable and/or creative solutions
3. acquire relevant corrosion-related data from the literature and other sources, and interpret or re-interpret the data in synthesising practical reports
4. use professional language and technically accurate written work to effectively communicate with corrosion engineers, operators and managers
5. describe major corrosion testing methods and prevention technologies, and explain their limitations
6. demonstrate self-reliance, motivation and initiative in planning and managing own learning
7. describe major international corrosion prevention standards and practices, and their differences
8. be aware of the cultural impact of engineering or related operations
9. demonstrate behaviours which support and uphold expectations of practicing engineers and the engineering profession
