This course extends the knowledge of students in the field of Forensic and Analytical Chemistry, with a particular emphasis on the legal and crime scene aspects of Forensic Science. This Honours degree includes a program of advanced study units in Forensic and Analytical Chemistry, more specifically, forensic legal and case studies, a field placement with the Western Australian Police Service, along with studies in modern analytical instrumentation. Furthermore, the students engage in a program of rigorous supervised research in Forensic Chemistry designed to instill a strong sense of investigative research skills, that are critical to crime solving in Forensic Science.

This course is one year full-time study. Two intakes are offered each year in March and August. Prospective students should note that places may not always be available for the August intake.
The honours program is in two sections. The coursework section consists of studies of specific aspects of forensic science such as legal issues in forensic science, practical experience with the Forensic Branch of the Western Australian Police Service ora forensic laboratory and forensic case studies. The second section is an honours research project and written dissertation describing research and the findings.
Students are expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials. Students will require a laboratory coat.
