This course is designed for those who wish to pursue careers in the world of commerce which are firmly grounded on a professional scientific background in industrial and applied chemistry. Students will complete this course as a Bachelor of Science witha Chemistry major and as a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Information Systems. A substantial proportion of the activities in a modern economy is based on chemical materials and chemical processes. Examples include food, drugs, organic and inorganic materials, fuel, lubricants and so on. There are also the aspects of managing the impact of these activities on the natural and human environment.
TEE Chemistry and Applicable Mathematics. TEE Physics desirable.
The STAT is not accepted for entry to this course.
Students will normally be expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
The course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study. Two intakes are offered each year in March and August. Prospective students should note that places may not always be available for the August intake.
Graduates will qualify for professional membership of the Royal Australian Chemical Society and will meet the academic requirements for other appropriate organisations such as the Australian Computer Society and the Australian Marketing Institute.
Students are expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials. Students will require a laboratory coat.
