154610 v.3 Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Geology), Bachelor of Commerce (Economics)

BEng(Curtin), BCom(Curtin)

Course CRICOS Code: 041780E
Registered full-time Duration for International Onshore Students on student visas: 5 Years

Introduction

This double degree equips students to work in a professional capacity in both technical and business areas of the mining and energy industries, through a strategic alliance between the Western Australian School of Mines and the Curtin Business School. In the engineering degree, students major in mining geology and in the commerce degree in economics.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

TEE Applicable Mathematics and Calculus. Physics is also required for the Mining Engineering or Mining Geology streams. Alternatively chemistry is required for Minerals Engineering. Well-performed applicants without all prerequisites may still be considered.

Specific Requirements

STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.

Note

In certain cases, the need to complete special units may result in an extension of studies beyond the normal length of the course.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This course is five years full-time or equivalent part-time study. The first seven semesters which focus particularly on engineering are conducted in Kalgoorlie with the final three semesters conducted at Bentley.

Course Organisation

Students must complete a minimum of two-fifths in engineering, one-fifth in commerce and two-fifths in both engineering and commerce. Units selected for study in each semester depend on the specialist areas selected. Individual programs are devised in consultation with the relevant course coordinators at the Western Australian School of Mines and the Curtin Business School. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant senior academic shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Professional Recognition

Curtin Business School courses are designed wherever possible to conform with the membership standards of the relevant professional bodies with which students are likely to become associated after graduation. Graduates should consult the Western Australian School of Mines regarding professional recognition of the engineering component of this course.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. Some costs are required for associated field trips. A requirement for graduation is the successful completion of a Senior First Aid certificate which participants are expected to pay.
