| Syllabus: | Designed to enable students to become well informed and critical observers of current policy developments in Australian education. While it will deal mainly with the current scene, it also aims to survey aspects of Australia's history of education policy-making as a necessary base to understanding the present. The major topics are the policy environment 1980 onwards, colonial legacies, the overhaul of state education in Australia 1890-1914 and education and the welfare state. |

| Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Described the factors that have influenced development of education policies in Australia. Identified the major policy initiatives in Australian education since colonisation. Analysed an educational policy initiative in terms of historical and political influences. |
